What I’m Grateful For: Grey Days
I love grey weekdays…. especially in the fall, even better if it’s raining just a little. These days, I’m happy as a clam to put on a nice fuzzy sweater and my leggings and head to work. It’s so much better than those glorious, shockingly beautiful fall color days – when you know there’s only a small handful left before winter sets in, and you DO NOT want to spend all that beautiful cobalt blue and cadmium red glory staring at your computer in your office…. No, let’s beg Mother Nature to save those days for the weekends, when we can go for a hike with the dog and properly enjoy the joy of fall!
What I’m Reading: I’m still reading The Culture Code: The Secrets of Highly Successful Groups, by Daniel Coyle. I just finished a chapter where the topic is communication, and what kind of communication creates the kind of empowered, confident team members that will do even better tomorrow than they did today. One fantastic tip was the following suggested feedback phrase: “I’m giving you these comments because I have very high expectations and I know that you can reach them.” According to the author, this simple sentence works for the following reasons: It tells the listener that he or she is part of a special group, that the standards for this group are high, and that you believe that they can reach them. It’s a lovely combination of a compliment and a challenge and a badge of honor. Try it and let me know how it works for you!
What I’m Pondering: “Courage is the first of human qualities because it is the quality which guarantees the others”. – Aristotle
