“Entrepreneurship requires flexibility and an open society, and there will always be people who succeed and people who follow. For those who lead, they have an obligation to create a better life for the people around them.”
–Daniel A. D’Aniello
10 days to go until Christmas. I’m going to admit it…. I’m not ready – I haven’t even decorated yet! This weekend I am going to make it happen. It’s kind of ironic as I was just being grateful for being so prepared a few weeks ago! But that leads me to …
What I’m grateful for– This week, I have been thinking a lot about gratitude amidst the hustle and bustle of the holidays (especially as I’m not ready in any sense of the word!). I realized that I was grateful for something to the tune of …… “flexibility, awkward or otherwise.” Life, messy and erratic with kids and dogs and businesses, has forced me to be ever more flexible in the face of uncertainty. And at this time of the year, it means that I feel a certain lightness in just shrugging my shoulders and giving everyone a big hug and letting us all off the hook of a lot of expectations and obligations. So the house is a little messy or the hair isn’t perfectly groomed…. let’s be grateful for where we can be flexible, and perhaps give others the same grace around us as well.
What I’m reading- Principles by Ray Dalio. This is the book of the year as far as I’m concerned. A comprehensive, clear and groundbreaking book that details the methods and practices of one of the most successful men alive, the founder of investment firm Bridgewater Associates. I’d suggest you get a copy AND a fresh notebook and pen to go with it, because you will want to take notes!
Tip from Nick- Any great agent prospects for at least one hour per day. We used to think about how many calls we made as an indicator for an agent’s success – however, we were wrong. My team has found that tracking quality conversations (QC) is a much better method to success. Set a goal each day to have four Q Cs – quality conversations – with prospective clients. Make this a non-negotiable for 2018.
Random thing I’m mulling over– “You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage – pleasantly, smilingly, non-apologetically – to say ‘no’ to other things. And the way to do that is by having a bigger ‘yes’ burning inside. The enemy of the ‘best’ is often the ‘good.’ “– Stephen Covey
